Stop making excuses and motivate yourself to success

There’s always a reason not to do something. Anything. Maybe it’s something hard, risky or outside your comfort zone. Procrastination means that you keep promising yourself that you’ll do it next week. Maybe you’re constantly saying to yourself that you’ll do it when you’re less this, more that or when the next thing has happened? If this sounds like you, you need to stop and ask yourself if you’re really serious about learning how to motivate yourself to success.

At Motivating Words we know that when you’re truly serious about success, there are few things that you will allow to stand in your way. Granted, things like births, deaths, divorces and property purchases might take your eye off the ball for a short time, but they won’t completely derail you.

If your path to success is being blocked by constant excuses on your part, you need to ask yourself why and motivate yourself to success. “Easier said than done” we hear you say, but it needn’t be. Here are 5 things you need to do to stop making excuses and motivate yourself to success:

1. Check that the success you’re avoiding is the success that you really want.

Sometimes we make excuses about doing something because in fact the thing that we are aiming for no longer fits us or aligns with our vision. Sometimes making excuses is just a sign that the end goal is no longer right for us. So before going to the stage of stopping making excuses and motivating yourself to success, make sure that the success you’re aiming for is still the success you really, really want.

2. Reconfirm that the path you’re taking to success is the right one.

The route to success is never straightforward. At best it’s a winding path, at worst it’s a jungle or a towering mountain range. But either way, when you are on the right path, for the right reasons, your excuses will stand aside and let you pass. Regularly making sure that the path you’ve planned out to get you to where you want to be is still the right one will keep you motivated and on track.

3. Make sure you’re ready.

Have you given yourself permission to become successful? Are you in the mindset of that success? Have you made the mental move from where you were, to being well on your way to where you want to be? If you haven’t given yourself permission or you’re not fully signed up to your journey towards success, you’ll be forever pulling out excuses and feeling demotivated. Test yourself. See if you’re really ready and willing.

4. Clarify your vision.

A fuzzy view of what life is going to be like when you arrive at your chosen success destination has to be dropped. You need a clear vision of what you want and why you want it in order to stop making excuses and motivate yourself to success. If your vision is in any way blurred, refocus the lens and get back on track today. There are many books about self-development that you can use to kickstart your efforts.

5. Establish the daily tactics that you need to keep you motivated.

There are plenty of things you can do on a daily basis to keep you motivated and avoid the ‘excuse’ mentality that you’re facing right now. Hop over to this article and take your pick. And don’t forget, it’ll be worth it in the end.
